Salute to our Veterans

Hello and welcome to my monthly blog - a salute to our Veterans. Every November we honor our Veteran’s with a special day. My intention is to focus on one local Veteran each month of the year - donating my time to ensure they each receive a free photo session, an 8x10 of their choosing and interview highlighting their service to our great country. I am particularly drawn to this project, having my own husband spent over 20 years in service through the United States Army Reserves, with a total of over 7 years away from our family while he was serving, often 3 months at a time, and a final 2 year deployment. Our children and I are incredibly proud of his service and know firsthand what moments at home he missed while away. Perhaps this is a reason I find photography so important, as we would relive those moments he missed through photos we would send to him, or look through when he returned each trip. I am starting my series with November 2021- highlighting my husband Douglas F. Horan. I was fortunate to complete my first two sessions in November and December, so please stay tuned for my photos and insights to their service and lives thereafter. I hope you find this monthly project a way to gain some insight to the lives of Veterans you may be working with, walking by, related to, visiting with, being coached by, volunteering with on any given day here in our beautiful Little Lakes Region in Western NY.
